Questions:

1. “Last words matter.” If you knew these were your final words to a loved one, what would you most want them to hold fast to—and what does that reveal about what you value most in life?

2. Holding fast isn’t automatic. Why do you think Paul felt the need to warn Timothy, a proven and faithful leader, to “hold fast” to sound teaching? In what ways are we tempted to assume perseverance rather than actively pursue it?

3. Pressure from inside the church. The sermon highlights that false teaching often comes from within the church rather than outside it. Where do you see pressure today to soften, reshape, or selectively ignore parts of the gospel to avoid discomfort or suffering?

4. Healthy words vs. comfort food. Using the “healthy food” metaphor, what kinds of spiritual “junk food” are most tempting to you personally? What makes them appealing in hard or tiring seasons?

5. What are you feeding others? When you share the gospel or teach others (formally or informally), are you tempted to remove the “fibre” of sin and judgment or the “vitamins” of suffering and service? What fears might drive that temptation?

6. Truth held without love. Paul insists that sound teaching must be held ‘with faith and love’. How can holding correct doctrine without Christ-like love damage our witness? Where might you need to grow in love without compromising truth?

7. Guarding the good deposit. What does it practically look like in your life to guard the gospel rather than merely possess it? How is guarding different from passively agreeing with it?

8. Cash in the attic moments. Are there areas where you are tempted to trade long-term faithfulness for short-term relief, comfort, or opportunity? What might you be in danger of “selling” without realizing its true value?

9. You are not alone. How does knowing that the Holy Spirit lives in us change the way you think about perseverance, ministry, or suffering? Where have you been relying on your own strength instead?

10. Passing it on. Who has God placed in your life to receive the ‘good deposit’ through you? What is one concrete step you can take this week to pass on the gospel faithfully to the next generation?
